Tammy was a resident with the Haven during Covid. Tammy struggled with mental health and abusive relationships during her childhood and adult life. Needing a change, Tammy sought shelter with the Haven and gained new independence.

After a close, personal loss, Michael found himself in a situation that severely affected his mental health. Post psychiatric treatment, Michael made his way to the Haven and started over. Michael began attending chapel, devotions, and quickly gained employment.

Sabrina found herself living a life of addiction and temptation from evil. Sabrina states that once she truly accepted God's love, grace, and mercy, her life started to improve. She entered the Haven's women shelter, the Grace Home, and found herself moving down a new, more positive path. Sabrina has been sober for nearly 6 years and has made drastic improvement in her life. Due to some time served in prison for drug related charges, Mark found himself estranged from his family and without a home. Mark turned to the Haven for shelter. "They took me right in" Mark recalls. Mark worked hard to prove his dedication to bettering himself. He changed his attitude about life and others and showed his dedication for improvement. Mark connected with the staff and quickly moved into the Haven's transitional living program. After a career in the Navy and a career as an electrician, David found himself in a rocky marriage and in the early stages of a drinking problem. Divorced and homeless, David sought shelter with the Haven of Rest. David made strides toward recovery and entered the Haven's transitional living program. Jimmy began his early life by going to college and entering a career with the Virginia Department of Transportation. Along the way, Jimmy fell into the temptation of drinking and drugs. After a car accident, Jimmy found himself with a criminal record, homeless, and essentially no belongings. Jimmy made the decision to check into the Haven of Rest. Jimmy made it into the Haven's Lighthouse program, but after some time, Jimmy found himself in old habits. Due to a work injury, Wendy was prescribed pain medication but soon found herself addicted. She quickly found herself on Suboxone, homeless, and estranged from her family. Wendy was also struggling with her mental health during this time. After seeking mental health treatment and being in several mental health facilities, Wendy found her way to the Haven of Rest. After several months, Wendy found her way back. She states "I've never been happier". Wendy has gained full-time employment and will soon move out to care for her elderly mother. Todd was adopted by a loving family and found himself in a happy, healthy home. After the tragic loss of his adopted father, Todd became lost and turned to temptation as a way to cope. Drinking and drugs became a normal activity for Todd during his teen years. By the time he graduated high school, Todd was partaking in drinking and drug use on a near daily basis. After the cost of drugs became too much, Todd began writing bad checks to cover expenses. He was soon charged and incarcerated for several years. After serving, Todd made his way to the Haven of Rest. When Mark began drinking in his late 20's, he found himself running with a rough crowd. Work became difficult to keep up with due to his addiction and Mark soon found himself without a job, divorced, and homeless. Thankfully, Mark's family brought him to the Haven of Rest for shelter.
